Final Numbers: K. Michelle, Meghan Trainor, & Kesha Respectively Sold…

Published: Thursday 13th Feb 2020 by Rashad

January 31 marked a busy day for music thanks to big album releases from the likes of Lil Wayne, Meghan Trainor, Kesha, and K. Michelle.

Although early reads of sales and streams saw Wayne and Kesha lead the way among the week’s debuts to be shoo-ins for the refreshed Billboard 200’s top 10 (as we reported here), Trainor and Michelle’s LPs – both unaccompanied by the buzz afforded their preceding projects – were jetting toward their respective lowest album chart premieres to date.

With the full 7-day tracking window in their rear view, look inside to find out just where they all landed on this week’s chart:

Lil Wayne’s ‘Funeral’

First Week Sales (SPS):  139,000

First Week Sales (Pure):  38,000

First Week Chart Placement:  #1

Billboard reports:

“Funeral is the fifth leader for Lil Wayne, and it enters with 139,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending Feb. 6, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data

Lil Wayne previously topped the Billboard 200 with Tha Carter V (2018), Tha Carter IV (2011), I Am Not a Human Being (2010) and Tha Carter III (2008).

Funeral not only secures Lil Wayne his fifth leader, but also his 12th top 10 effort. He first hit the Billboard 200 just over 20 years ago, on the list dated Nov. 20, 1999, when Tha Block Is Hot debuted and peaked at No. 3.”

Kesha’s ‘High Road’

First Week Sales (SPS):  45,000

First Week Sales (Pure):  35,000

First Week Chart Placement:  #7
“Kesha snares her fourth top 10 album, as High Road bows at No. 7 with 45,000 equivalent album units. Of that starting sum, 35,000 were in album sales, aided by a concert ticket/album sale redemption offer with her upcoming tour, as well as merchandise/album bundle sales via her official website. Kesha previously clocked top 10s with Rainbow (No. 1 in 2017), Warrior (No. 6, 2012) and Animal (No. 1, 2010).”

Meghan Trainor’s ‘Treat Myself’

First Week Sales (SPS):  23,000

First Week Sales (Pure):  12,000

First Week Chart Placement:  #25
Like Kesha, ‘Treat Myself’ not only comes as Trainor’s lowest first week sales to date but also lists her lowest first week chart position.

K. Michelle’s ‘All Monsters Are Human’

First Week Sales (SPS):  12,000

First Week Sales (Pure):  8,200

First Week Chart :  #51
Despite being only her second album to miss the chart’s top 10 its first week, the #51 debut of ‘Human’ bests that of its predecessor, 2017’s ‘Kimberly:  The People I Used to Know,’ which debuted at #56 on the Billboard 200.

I get why record labels want to know album sales and what not but why does the public need to know?

These fans all pretend to care and when the album comes out they pay it dust. Then get mad when the artist takes years to drop a new record.

    • Beyonce Knows February 13, 2020

RIAA needs to have a universal streaming number that equals 1 sale for all music formats because it’s looking real bad for the industry. Social media should also have its own charts for music just as radio airplay does.

“These fans all pretend to care and when the album comes out they pay it dust. Then get mad when the artist takes years to drop a new record.”

This is exactly what is happening to normani

She gets so much love on Twitter
Everybody keeps praising her, but go check out how many streams motivation has. Very very low.

Go to Twitter right now, everybody is screaming, normani drop the album, normani drop new music, but when she drops new music, nobody gonna stream or buy it.

      • Ugghh February 13, 2020

My comment was referring to all artist but okay, go off Normani Stan. Haha

      • Gworl Bye February 14, 2020

Thats what happened to camila. She was hyped to kingdom come and has millions of social media followers, yet her album tanked hard as a brick and disappeared quicker than it was released.

      • Gworl Bye February 14, 2020

P.S., Motivation has 100+MILLION streams. That is not “very very low”. Be accurate next time you try to shade somebody.

      • Love February 14, 2020

If u work or apart of the TGJ y are u bashing artist I don’t get they need to fire yo ass period like ASAP

  2. J February 13, 2020

People aren’t buying music anymore. I don’t know why you all bother to report it lol.

In all honestly though, this is just sad. Artists have to figure out a new way to get people to buy their music.

  3. Paulo February 13, 2020

Kesha will be fine as long as she secures her touring audience. She wasn’t that far off Wayne in pure sales so that’s definitely a good sign. K Michelle is indie so I’m not surprised she did so poorly, now Meghan I feel sorry for.

    • Clarks0oñ February 13, 2020

U didnt keep the same energy when Camila sold more than Roddy rich in pure sale
Roddy rich sold 3k in pure sales.

      U can see the bias
U are envious of Camila, nothing more

      Rats all of yall.
      ??????

      • Paulo February 14, 2020

how many times will you dodge these questions:

why did Camila FAIL to top Roddy Rich on streams if she’s the most streamed female artist and he’s not even in the worldwide Top 10?
why did Romance FAIL to double its pure sales number with streaming?
why is her duet lead single checking in at billions in streaming but she couldn’t make over 30k in streaming first week?

and most importantly… why would anyone be jealous of screeching and cawing? I most definitely would not. especially not when her stans are bum b****** like you

      • Clarks0oñ February 14, 2020

U son of a cheap hòe

      • Paulo February 14, 2020

lmao nice try with your illiterate b**** nonsense. if she sold more and had more streams then how come she got beat by a soundcloud hype artist? make it make sense ho

      • Clarks0oñ February 14, 2020

Words from the mouth a rat dont mean s*** to anybody

I just proved ur a rat and a clown all rolled in one

        Now die u rat.

  4. Clarks0oñ February 13, 2020

TGJ and their poor journalism .
Always trying to protect your faves and twist the story with lots of unnecessary paragraphs

Meghan trainor, treat myself- number 25
    K. Michelle- number 51

Who is the rat now, k. Michelle?
    ?????
    Rat Michelle.

Go against Camila, its gonna cost u.

    • Ugghh February 13, 2020

Do you get tired? Who hurt you? You stay on this site to argue.

Chill bruh. None of this is that deep

  5. HavanaONana February 13, 2020

    • Beyonce Knows February 14, 2020

But at the end of the day K.Michelle gets to keep more of her money than C*****. I’d rather be at the bank than at the top of the charts tbh!

  6. MichelleBranchSpiritRoom February 13, 2020

      • Clarks0oñ February 14, 2020

        It’s not about me.

        First I’m a white trànny

        Then I’m a TGJ staff

Then I work for Camila’s team

        That is not my account.
Last time I will address this.

    • Paulo February 14, 2020

a Michelle Branch stan tryna get messy in 2020… what the f*** is happening lmao but lemme go stream The Spirit Room cause it’s a good album and I ain’t heard it in a while

  7. Only Facts February 14, 2020

I’m shocked that lil Wayne’s numbers aren’t higher. The other numbers were as expected. After several listens, keshas album becomes unlistenable…her vocals are too loud and the songs don’t sound like they’re fully mixed. Meghan’s album should’ve come last year…the delay hurt this album, as well as the single choices. K Michelle….no comment because your attitude ruins everything.

  8. Clarks0oñ February 14, 2020

Albums hitting number 1 on iTunes dont mean shìt.

Meghan trainor album was number 1 on iTunes
Now look at where it debuted on the charts.

Thank god for that nicki minaj collaboration, if not, the numbers will be worse. .
Meghan is the true definition of 1 hit wonder

Best new artist curse strikes again.

Well atleast she released her 3rd album
    She will be fine

She is a judge on one of these reality competition shows. Bless her heart

  9. Erica February 14, 2020

Kmichelle posted on Instagram that her album debuted at 11 on billboard 200 album chart with over 20 million streams I’m confused

    • HavanaONana February 14, 2020

      Lol she must be hallucinating

Or she must be referring to different charts like billboard Independent charts lol

      Even Shareefa didn’t debut @ #51

This is K. Michelle’s of Point of No Return ?
      Her sale will get worst

The humble pie is served to where it belongs

      • Paulo February 14, 2020

Point of No Return is super underrated. amazing album. Idk why you’d bring it up when musically it is miles better than ANYTHING your fav will EVER put out. dancing on the grave of K Michelle’s career will not change the fact your fav is a talentless product

  10. Pat February 14, 2020

People buy music. New artists shelf life is very short. People move on quick

    • J February 14, 2020

What have you bought over the past month?

  11. AJ February 14, 2020

Meg had too long a build up with her album. She should have dropped an EP last year and then followed up with a full length album later this year.

  12. High Price February 14, 2020

Damn K Michelle! Smh. The album is actually a good body of work. Start to finish. I was thinking she’d at least get 40k first week. But at the same time, her promo was lacking. Instead of being so caught up in drama on love and hip hop, she should have did like a 4 or 5 day episode docu-series on the behind the scenes of this album. She low key did it for her first 2 albums. Smh. People really aren’t interested in her drama anymore. Apparently people are more interested in her music and want to see her focus on that instead of gossipy drama. Smh. I see why artist are doing other thing beside making music. It seems like their passion may not be making them money for real. Some Independent underground artist are selling more albums then 12k.

  13. Lol February 14, 2020

That’s exactly what hat K Michelle gets. All that slick talk and your album flops. Be humble.

  14. YAS BIH February 14, 2020

? Km will be fine especially since the pick & choose bias culture are around so she’s good don’t have to worry about trolls waiting for you to drop music so they can troll you on yt videos or blogs and ratchet media all day everyday plus she’s independent i don’t know why they feel the need to report on independent artist sales anyway which most of the time they wont do as great as others who’s being pushed.

  15. POPS MUVA February 14, 2020

K michelle hunty all that LOUD MOUTH you did on Twitter. now look at what your sales look like you’re a whole flop you weak b**ch you will never make it

  16. Britt February 15, 2020

I bought K. Michelle’s album and ABSOLUTELY love it. She’s got my support ♥️
